Whether or not to invite children to your wedding
is a dilemma many couples encounter. You may already have children
yourselves, or you may have family and friends with young children.
Should you decide not to invite children to your big day - be
prepared for the backlash, as well as the possibility that some
guests may decide to decline your invitation altogether.
So what is the solution I hear you cry? A wedding crèche!
Wedding crèches are still a relatively new idea, although
have been growing in popularity in the Home Counties for a few
years now. A crèche alleviates the stress of worrying
if the children will play-up, get bored/tired/fidgety/mischievous
etc. throughout the ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening
reception.
A crèche company usually operates in a separate room
at your reception venue. Usually, if you are spending a tidy-sum
with the reception provider anyway, they will be only too happy
to throw in a smaller function room. A small conference sized-
room is usually adequate, but obviously this depends on the
number of children that need to be cared for. The crèche
provider will then provide toys and activities to keep the children
happy for a few hours. Toys should be age-appropriate and should
cater for the age-range of the children attending. Staff on
duty should be qualified in childcare (usually Nursery Nursing)
and a good crèche provider should have a first aider
on duty.
Typically a wedding crèche commences when guests arrive
at the reception and runs throughout the wedding breakfast and
speeches, usually running for about 3 hours.
